First Nations people on Canada's West Coast developed a special form of art which is best know by totem poles. Many of
their art work represents animals. Early 1800s, European settlers came to the region due to fur trade. In the late 1800s,
Chinese people came to this region to help finish building the final section fo the Pacific Railway. Today many of the Chinese
people's desecendants live in the region. Also British Columbia has many people from all over the world! Vancouver is
the largest city of the region. It has a population of 17,000,000.
There are lots of famous people born in British Columbia. These people include the former Canadian Prime minister Kim Campbell,
actor Michael J. Fox, and NBL star Larry Walker. There are many hockey players, too. Joe Sakic, Paul Kariya, Mark Recchi and
Rod Brind'Amour are also from BC. And David Foster,l composer and producer, Steve Nash of the Dallas Mavericks, pianist and
singer Diana Krall and award-winning film director Atom Egoyan. David Suzuki is a internationally-known scientist. Finally,
there is Ross Revagliati who is an Olympic snowboarding gold medallist, actress Pamela Anderson and Grammy winning singers,
Sarah McLachlan and Bryan Adams.
